What a week

This week living so far away has really got me down. Well it could also be that we have had 2 weeks straight with rain. I got a call on Sunday that my niece Katharine, who just turned 3 was in the emergency room because she had been running a fever of 102 for 24 hours. She tested positive for H1N1 and is do much better now. My brother, Dustin who was playing football on Sunday with some guys at work fell on his shoulder causing him alot of pain. He decided to go to the emergency room with his wife, Tasha and daughter. He I believe is doing better. So thinking that was going to be all the emergency room visits for my family this week I get a call from my mom. My dad was taken to the emergency room on Monday due to breathing problems. As you may remember he suffered a heart attack last year on October 7th. Almost a year later he is back at the hospital for fluid around his heart and lungs. They were able to drain off the fluid and he was sent home yesterday. But wait there's more. Unbeknownst to me I got a text Wednesday night letting me know my sister in law, Tasha had been taken to the emergency room by ambulance. She went to the doctor having breathing problems and thought it was just her asthma acting up. The doctor gave her 3 breathing treatments and a steroid shot. The doctor decided it was best to get her to the emergency room. Once there she had a major asthma attack after a breathing treatment and there was some concern about her being able to breath on her own. She had gone numb in her extremities and turned blue. She is on oxygen and some of her lab work is abnormal, so they are keeping her in the hospital. She has also tested positive for H1N1. Please keep all of my sick family members in your prayers. This must be so rough for them especially my brother. He doesn't have anyone down there to help him because no one wants to get H1N1. Tasha and I have a great group of girlfriends who are getting together to bring meals to the house just to leave on the porch. That will help and people can help without being infected.

Well Thanksgiving is this weekend in Canada. I don't think we are doing anything. I am sure it will just be another day. We will celebrate Thanksgiving when we go to Disney during the U S Thanksgiving holiday.

One of those nights

The babies both woke up with the green funk on Saturday morning. This is the kind of funk that their eyes are all crusty and their nose is just gross. We had a long weekend inside but they aren't cranky just crusty. lol So last night we put them to bed at 7 and I kept hearing Lily coughing but it sounded like she was choking so I went in to check on her. They were both awake and did not like it when I peeked in and quickly peeked out. After a few minutes of screams and and it was obvious they were not going back to sleep I brought them downstairs to hang out with us. Oh I forgot to mention, Preston has his molars coming in and Lily has 2 more front teeth coming in. It seems they always get sick when they are teething. So anyway we gave them some milk and Tylenol, let them hang out a bit and put them back to bed. Not a peep until 3 am when they both woke up again. I got them out of their beds and laid on the floor with them for 30 minutes or so. Put them back in their bed and again they fell asleep until 8:30 this morning....... wooooo hoooooo!!!!
Whew I hope tonight is better. I guess it would help if I didn't stay up until midnight scrapbooking. hehe

Doctor update

I took the babies to the Dr on Friday. Originally both babies were congested and had some yellowish boogies. Oh and did I mention Aaron was in Halifax Wed and Thur? Yea so my week was fun. **STAY TUNED FOR MY NIGHT OUT POST!!!**
They started to clear up about Thursday but then Preston started pulling at his ear so I decided to take them both in on Friday. I didn't have an appointment so we went to the walk in clinic and waited for an hour and a half. Once we got back the doctor was really nice, great with the babies and took his time. You would think that as many people as there were in the waiting room we would be rushed but we weren't. He looked at Preston's ears and only his right one is infected. He looked at Lily's and he said both of hers are infected. Her left was red but her right ear drum was bulging. She didn't seem to be in pain at all, she must have my pain tolerance. Like I said Preston is the one that I knew had an ear infection. Both babies got Amoxicillin and are to take it 3 x per day for 10 days. I can not tell you how thankful I am to have taken them to the dr before our trip. I hope they will be all clear for take off in 13 days!!!! Crap 13 days I have not done a thing.

"The first 3 months are the hardest"

I find myself saying this phrase alot lately. Of course it is in the snootiest voice possible. Let me be the first to mention that I don't think the first 3 months are the hardest. They may be difficult because of the sleep deprived state you are in but by no means are they the hardest. I find that these past few months have been harder. We have been dealing with new sleep schedules, new foods, teething, lots of crawling and tears (due to falls from pulling up) . The past few days the babies have been sick. 2 nights in a row they have slept in their car seats. Saturday night Preston woke up and was so stopped up he couldn't breath. I rocked him and put him to sleep in his car seat. Sunday night it was Lily's turn she woke up but when you rock her she pops her head up and laughs. We finally got her back to sleep and put her in her car seat as well. Yesterday was a day of crying, no naps and major meltdowns. Aaron got home and didn't even have to ask "how was your day" Last night I learned my lesson and put them both in their car seats and they slept like a charm until 5:30 am. I decided just to give them a bottle and they went back to sleep until 8:30. Whew!! It was at 5:30 am that I reminded myself "the first 3 months are the hardest" All I can say is thank you daddy for hooking up the dvd so we can watch Baby Einstein. You pop in that dvd and you have 30 minutes to clean, cook, do laundry or lock yourself in the bathroom to have a moment of silence. I have been putting vapo rub on their chest to try and clear up their sniffles. I am also sanitizing everything in this house so we don't pass this gunk around. Today so far has been great. They both slept from 10:30 to 11:30 and are getting ready for lunch. Which is a whole new topic for tomorrow. They have a wide variety new foods now.
I guess what I am trying to say is that having children is a glorious thing and you have your good days and bad.
